Flower Subscription Service

Several years ago I started offering a subscription service for those looking to give a unique gift. Customers chose 3, 6 or 12 month options and paid one fee upfront. Husbands loved the service because it kept them out of trouble! They decided on all the delivery dates, gave me any special instructions and paid all at once. Then they just sat back and watched as the flowers arrived on time without them having to remember to call and order ahead of each holiday.

DSC_0017 crop

This arrangement was sent by a husband that purchased a subscription for his wife. I seated the arrangement of purple hydrangeas, ‘Sterling’ roses, green hypericum berries, green hanging amaranthus and lavender dahlias in a vase from his wife’s personal collection. I loved that he thought of her vase and got it to me ahead of time. A husband planning ahead and thinking through the details really impresses me!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

The Women Who Keep Me Young

Last night two of my favorite people came over to have a fun girls’ night watching Flowers Uncut. Emily and Jenny worked as designers for Bliss Flower Studio and I LOVE spending time with them. For one thing they are both considerably younger than I am so they bring me up to speed on life as we NOW know it (in other words, we’re not in the 80’s or 90’s anymore). They introduced me to blogging and Anthropologie and Etsy. They make me laugh and, so, I was excited to watch the show with fellow designers knowing there would be lots of laughter.

2009 11 19 002 edit and crop

I settled in with Emily (in the middle) and Jenny (on the right) to watch the show and guess what? None of us checked the TV schedule to discover the show wasn’t even on last night! Oh, well. We had plenty to talk about and a plate of cookies so we still had a great visit. I miss these gals so much…

They are both super talented and made my life SO much easier on wedding weekends…

2008 06 28 025 edit2  Emily offered to bring along a floral-designer friend one busy wedding weekend and Jenny was a part of Bliss from that day on! She was the calm in a sea of hysteria (mostly my hysteria). We were all blessed by her and now she  has gone on to start her own floral design business…

2008 06 28 024 edit and crop

Emily stepped into the picture just as my business was taking off and relieved me of so much stress. She is creative, responsible and talented. She brought tons of laughter and joy to the studio. Emily has gone on to become a mother and start a photography business called Emme B. Photography. I knew she had an eye for photography when I was struggling to take a picture of some bouquets at a wedding. Em walked up, asked to use the camera and snapped this photo…

fritz 4-07 110crop  … I was trying to center the bouquets and get the green mold OUT of the frame! Check out her website to see her portfolio…

Great seeing you girls! Maybe next time we’ll check the TV schedule…

Lounging on the Lawn

Remember the days when a wedding was followed by a cake, punch, nuts and mints reception in the church parlor? Ok, that was a while ago and I’m sure many of you don’t even know what I’m talking about. Weddings have come a long way since then. Mints  and nuts were really no incentive to stay at the reception for more than an hour. Now we have parties that last well into the night and often resume for brunch the next day…so you can get comfortable because you’re staying a while!

Flowers for the Football Coach

A bouquet ordered for the football coach and his wife by a fan/supporter/friend…

Another favorite part of the flower business…the chain of relationships that develops. The recipient of this bouquet became a frequent client and I was blessed by her kindness and sweet spirit over the years that I had Bliss Flower Studio.

Have a great Saturday!

Anniversary Flowers for Your Husband

Instead of waiting for your husband to send you flowers on your anniversary, why not surprise him with flowers?Bouquets can be masculine and can be made to coordinate with his office decor or, if he’s sentimental and remembers your wedding palette, can incorporate flowers from your wedding day.

DSC_0088 edit    …green hydrangeas, wine callas, rose kangaroo paw and blue hyacinths in sea blue pottery…colors that held special meaning for the couple who ordered this bouquet on their anniversary…

Here’s what I’ll be doing tonight…watching this…

0000062499_20091102150504 jeff leatham…thanks to Emily and Jenny for cluing me in last week! If you are a designer, you have to see this show! What a hoot last week. I nearly had a panic attack for poor Jeff as he worked on a huge wedding at the Waldorf and learned that the guests would be arriving 2 hours earlier than expected. That’s the stuff that floral designers’ nightmares are made of! Then there was the hilarious exchange where he likened cutting the sweet pea stems too short to a circumcision…don’t ask…

Blissfully White

I can’t help myself, I tell you! No matter how hard I try to ignore the white and branch out into colors others might enjoy, I can’t resist all things white. So, please, just bear with me one more time…

One thing I would like to point out: White flowers can be pristine or they can be bruised and sad looking.  You can see the care the designers featured here take in their work…not one bruised or damaged flower. Perfection!

I promise color the rest of the week now that I’ve had my white fix! Thanks for stopping by today…
