Going Green

I was surprised how many people read my last post on green bouquets. Green is no longer a wallflower standing by while brighter hued flowers take center stage…

Maybe I needed to post about green today because there isn’t much of it around here this time of year…except the sweet peas struggling to reach the trellis out back. Stretch, Sweet Peas, Stretch! I need you to bloom…

Color My World

I’m in a tug of war with myself…

A while back I saw these pictures at Blush and I can’t get the colors out of my head…

carla10eyck_sept2 event jubilee.com (blush floral)

carla10eyck_sept5 event jubilee.com (blush floral)

…so I decided that I would redo my downstairs after Christmas and incorporate some of the pinks and blues…

Here’s the thing:

1. I am the ONLY female in my house (that includes the dog).

2. I am usually drawn to soft shades of blue, green, grey and white (see Velvet and Linen).

3. I feel I am turning into a bore.

4. I need a little infusion of fun around here.

We took everything out of our bedroom today and have it prepared to begin painting in the morning. All the paint will be white so I’m not committed to anything yet. But, I can just see a big vase of pink peonies in the spring…

What do you all think I should do? Stay with the soft colors or take the plunge and color my world for a little fun?

Hope you all had a great Christmas!

Christmas Red

As Christmas approaches, red is everywhere. I’m not crazy about orangey reds, but I love deep, deep reds…

Flower Sphere

You can call them flower spheres, flower balls, flower orbs or pomanders…I just call them fun…

As a designer, I have to say these are just as much fun to make as they are to enjoy at an event!

One week until Christmas Eve…can you believe it?

Red Hot Hatbox

~‘Heat’ roses, hypericum berries and freesia in a velvet hatbox~

DSC_0001crop

Hope you guys are further along with your Christmas shopping than I am…seems I have a little problem with gift commitment. You know, like “What if I see something better later?” or “What if I find it at a better price at the next store?”

Well, I’m off to shop again…wish me luck!

Thanks for stopping by today…

Crazy About Stephanotis

What is it about Stephanotis that captivates us? Maybe it’s the subtle scent or the flawless white waxy bloom or the jewels you can add to the centers…

nellorfg petal's edge …or maybe it’s the tailored look of a stephanotis posy…

(image via Petal’s Edge)

murraywreath stoneblossom …maybe it’s the lushness of the blooms when used en masse…

(image via Stoneblossom)

stepanotis_spr97_l martha sterwart …or maybe it’s an appreciation for the amount of work that goes into handwiring each individual bloom…

(image via Martha Stewart)

Wedding_S&R_3_big lavender green florist uk …maybe it’s simply the fact that there is no flower more beautiful…

(image via Lavender Green Flowers)

Remember when Jessica Simpson carried a 500-stem bouquet of Stephanotis (created by Mark’s Garden) in her Texas wedding to Nick Lachey ? The media reported that the bouquet took 12 hours to create and cost around $8000.00!

jessica-simpson-wedding

…apparently a 500-stem Stephanotis bouquet can’t insure a long and happy marriage…

Have a great Wednesday! I think I better start my Christmas shopping today…wouldn’t want to wait till the last minute.

… been saving this picture a long time…just love the color combination…deep aubergine and lavender mist…

(image via Lanielizabeth)

Callas are still favorites of mine for monobotanical bouquets. I think they’re exquisite as a stand alone variety…in volume…and more is always better (in my opinion)!

I, personally, prefer monochromatic calla bouquets. I would love to know what everyone else prefers…one color or mixed?

Thanks for visiting the Brouhaha today! Have a great day…
