The Question:

I am in a design rut - I am creative to a certain point but am struggling to think "outside the box".  I do not want my events to all look the same.  Any resources, books, blogs, websites that you enjoy?

The Answers:

I have found there's nothing better to refresh my creativity than travelling. If that's not an option, try getting inspiration from sources outside the flower world. Art galleries, fashion websites, books on garden design or even being out in nature. Sometimes my best ideas come from the most unexpected places, like seeing how a certain fashion designer is working with colour in a new and exciting way.

Botanical Brouhaha and Flirty Fleurs of course!!!  I love Belgium designer Gudrun Cottenier and my dear friend Francoise Weeks. Mostly I think it is very beneficial to spend time in your studio creating new things. The money you invest in experimentation comes back in ten fold. The designs that are created in your studio with your hand will be truly authentic and totally you. The designs should also be professionally photographed so that you can add them to your portfolio. It is also very helpful to spend time with other creatives in your field.

Another big game changer for me was my trip to study in Europe. I did the European floral design tour. That is where I met Gudrun. My trip was sponsored by Laura Iarocci from Faith Flowers. I can't imagine a better opportunity or a better host. That trip was life changing.

Well, if you really want to think out of the box, then don't read flower blogs or flower books or you'll do the same as other designers. If you want to read, then find books about creativity and methods to be more creative… There are plenty out there. Then your work will be really different and truly yours.

Thanks Laetitia, Holly & Clare!
